Program Overview
The joint providership of Medical Resource Education and Focus Medical Communications presents Chicago GI & Liver Associate Members (GLAM) Meeting Series. This educational activity will provide education, networking, and collaboration opportunities, empowering advanced practice providers (APPs), registered nurses (RNs), and pharmacists to stay current on the latest developments in gastroenterology and hepatology.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of gastroenterology and hepatology APPs (nurse practitioners, nurses, and physician assistants/associates) involved in the management of patients with CLD and GI disorders.

Educational Objectives

• GLAM Meeting I: MASLD and Prevention of Cirrhotic Decompensation

  • Evaluate and integrate non-invasive tests and liver biopsy findings for accurate MASH diagnosis and staging.

  • Analyze the mechanisms, efficacy, and safety data of current and emerging MASH pharmacotherapies to inform treatment selection.

  • Implement evidence-based surveillance strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and varices in patients with compensated cirrhosis.
     

• GLAM Meeting II: PBC and Viral Hepatitis

  • Select appropriate second-line therapies for PBC patients with inadequate response or intolerance to UDCA.

  • Formulate evidence-based management strategies for symptoms associated with PBC, such as pruritus and fatigue.

  • Identify patients at high risk for hepatitis B reactivation and implement appropriate prophylactic measures.
     

• GLAM Meeting III: IBD and IBS

  • Compare and contrast advanced therapeutic options for IBD, including biologic sequencing, combination therapies, and small molecules, based on patient-specific factors.

  • Develop management plans for complex IBD scenarios, such as refractory disease, loss of response, and post-operative complications.

  • Utilize an understanding of IBS pathophysiology and diagnostic criteria to differentiate IBS from organic diseases effectively.

  • Apply evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies for managing refractory symptoms in various IBS subtypes.
     

Accreditation Statement

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Medical Education Resources (MER) and Focus Medical Communications. MER is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physician Associate Credit

Medical Education Resources has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 1.5 AAPA Category 1 CME credit. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Nurse Credit

Medical Education Resources designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.50 ANCC nursing contact hour. Nurses will be awarded contact hours upon successful completion of the activity. This activity is designated for 0.3 ANCC pharmacotherapeutic contact hours.
